Vinium Wines www.viniumwine.com based in Sonoma's Alexander Valley, is pioneering a new, eco-friendly approach to wine packaging and delivery for super-premium wines, eschewing bottles and corks in favor of sustainable packaging, dispensing systems and direct delivery.
In essence, consumers purchase either a refillable oak wine-barrel that holds the equivalent of 12 bottles of wine, or an eco-friendly cask that holds the equivalent of 4 bottles. Wine will stay fresh for up to 8 weeks after opening.
The tasting will be conducted by Richard Cardoza, founder of Vinium. Richard says Vinium wines can stand up to California products in the $20-$30/bottle range, but because of savings achieved through their packaging and delivery methods, Vinium sells for half of those prices.
