Studio City this Thursday 6/28!

LA Green Drinkers,

Take advantage of the extended daylight this month in the Valley LA Green Drinks and check out the Valleyheart Greenway, a project by TheRiverProject.org. The Director of The River Project, Melanie Winter is also a fellow LA Green Drinker. Thanks for the tip Melanie!

The project created landscaping and pathways along the south bank of the river between Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Radford Avenue, but also includes the Great Toad Gate, a Butterfly Garden and other amenities designed by local students from Carpenter Avenue Elementary School.

Melanie says it is pretty spectacular this time of year, look for the blooming Matilija Poppies-
all walking distance from The Sapphire.

ECO ACTION
A new section of LA Green Drinks were we help people take a monthly action step to make a difference-

This month's eco-action comes from Elizabeth Zampolli, co-host of the Silver Lake Green Drinks.

Change at least 3 incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs.
-CFLs use a 1/5 of the energy of standard incandescent bulbs and last 10X longer.
Each CFL you install will keep about 1,500 lbs of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere over its lifetime.
One bulb can lower your energy bill by $15 annually and reduce your carbon dioxide emissions by 150 lbs.
If every household in the United States replaced one incandescent light bulb in their home with a compact fluorescent, it would save a total of 90 million pounds of global warming pollution over the lifetime of the bulbs. This would be equal to taking 6.3 million cars off the road.

Where do I get CFLs?
Ikea, Target, Home Depot, Online stores, or your local hardware store.

Should you replace incandescent bulbs that still work or wait till they run out?
Change them now. CFLs are so much more efficient and save so much more energy.

What do I do with old light bulbs?
They will need to be taken to household hazardous waste.

Please share your stories/experiences with this challenge at the next green drinks.
