LA Green Drinks - Studio City is the 4th Thursday of every month.

ECO ACTION
A new section of LA Green Drinks were we help people take a monthly action step to make a difference-

This month's eco-action comes from Elizabeth Zampolli, co-host of the Silver Lake Green Drinks.

Change at least 3 incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs.
-CFLs use a 1/5 of the energy of standard incandescent bulbs and last 10X longer.
Each CFL you install will keep about 1,500 lbs of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere over its lifetime.
One bulb can lower your energy bill by $15 annually and reduce your carbon dioxide emissions by 150 lbs.
If every household in the United States replaced one incandescent light bulb in their home with a compact fluorescent, it would save a total of 90 million pounds of global warming pollution over the lifetime of the bulbs. This would be equal to taking 6.3 million cars off the road.

Where do I get CFLs?
Ikea, Target, Home Depot, Online stores, or your local hardware store.

Should you replace incandescent bulbs that still work or wait till they run out?
Change them now. CFLs are so much more efficient and save so much more energy.

What do I do with old light bulbs?
They will need to be taken to household hazardous waste.

Please share your stories/experiences with this challenge at the next green drinks.

This event is open to the public and attendees are encouraged to register at 888-765-2489

SolarCity, a solar installation and service company inspiring communities to take charge of their energy needs, welcomes Santa Monica residents to a community meeting on “greening” Santa Monica and the economic and environmental benefits of household and commercial solar power.
SolarCity will kick off the meetings and discuss the alignment of SolarCity's concepts with the City Council's environmental stewardship goals. Strategies will be discussed identifying ways the community can cut residential and commercial greenhouse gas emissions consistent with Kyoto protocols.
Also, SolarCity representatives will discuss how solar power provides a simple solution to help reduce carbon emissions and generate clean energy, and announce a special Santa Monica group incentive for solar packages.
The recently announced Santa Monica Collective Purchase Program aims to deliver at least 50kW of solar power between the city's residential and commercial customers. Thanks to group purchasing power, Santa Monica residents will have the opportunity to save 15% over typical solar installation and service costs if they register for service between now and July 30, 2007. In addition, one of the first 30 Santa Monica collective power customers will receive an additional $3,000 discount on the cost of their new system if they sign before June 30.
